We are One Holy Apostolic Church Diocese. When Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was elevated to the pontificate in 1958 and took the name John XXIII(1958-1963), many felt that his papalcy would become a "caretaker" administration, but as a church diplomat he had considerable experience with both social and political movements of various kinds during his papal reign.  His assignments in Bulgaria, Turkey, France, and Germany had brought him into contact with Orthodox and Non - Catholic worlds, and with many types of political groupings. As pope he manifested a determination to guide the church toward a reconsideration of its patterns of faith and life in view of the world`s needs, and also toward genuine Ecumenical relations with other Christian churches. Early in 1959 he announced that he would convoke the Twenty-first Ecumenical Council (Vatican II), to which would be gathered the bishops of the Church from all over the world.  In 1960 he established the Secretariat for promoting Christian Unity and named Augustin Cardinal Bea (1881-1968) as its head, thus providing an effective channel for dialogue with other churches.  The Pope named five official observers to attend the Third Assembly of the World Council of Churches, and invited Protestant and Orthodox communions to send observers to Vatican II; many did send such observers.  John XXIII`s concern for human needs and world problems were reflected in two notable encyclicals.  Mater et magistra (1961) was an updating of Catholic social teaching in the tradition of Rerum novarum and Quadragesimo anno, issued on the 70th and 30th anniversary of those documents.  Pacem in terris(1963) was devoted to establishing conditions which could lead to universal peace in truth, justice, charity, and liberty. It declared that " all men are created equal in their natural dignity, " and called all Catholics to work with people of other faiths for common good.

In October 11, 1962 in St. Peters basilica in Rome, Vatican II opened with it becoming apparent that the desired "updating" (aggiornamento) of the Church would require a great undertaking,  among the more than two thousand bishops attending, its meetings adjourned on December 8 without appreciable completed results.

John XXIII died the following June, His successor, Giovanni Battista Montini, Paul VI determined to complete and implement the Council, which met for three more sessions, each fall.  Pope Paul did not emerge as the charismatic figure his predecesser had been, but his concern for reconciliation with others was dramatized by his Ecumenical journey to the Holy land in 1964, during which he met with Patriarch of Constantinople, with the outcome of an issuance on (December 7, 1965) of the sad seperation of (1054) with Rome and Constantinople removing the sentences of excommunication and opened the dialogue for ecumenical reconciliation.

The first completed work of Vatican II was the Constitution on the sacred liturgy. Building on the work of the liturgical movement, it provided for the revision of the rite of the Mass, and for its more communal celebration.

Sixteen texts were adopted by the Council fathers, in particular the declaration on the relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions and the cooperation with them for the common good.  The Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World was addressed not only to the faithful but to " the whole of humanity," and much preparation went toward Vatican II`s Dogmatic Constitution on the church widely held to be the masterpiece of the Council, the text moved away from the hierarchical and jurdical emphases to a more biblical, historical, and dynamic position.  Of central importance was the stress on collegiality, a fraternal partnership with the Pastoral and Ecumenical, this constitution opened the way for fruitful Ecumenical dialogue with Orthodox, Anglican, and Protestant theologians which declared that "they neither take away from nor add anything to the dignity and efficacy of Christ the One Mediator"  The document closed by emphasizing the importance of easy access to Scripture by all the faithful, in suitable and correct translations, of particular interest to the non-Catholic world was the council`s Decree on Ecumenism in that the faithful take an active part in the work and advance of Ecumenism, and admitting that the divisions among all Christians have been the result of sin on both sides, but that the text spoke of those in the Catholic Church to be ever so active in its ecumenism efforts of reconciliation among All who share the same dogma in Christ.

We the Ecumenical Apostolic Church Diocese are grounded in the tenants and faith of Catholicism and Apostolicism and are devoted to continue the inspired most recent works of John Paul II, who he himself combined the Ecumenical work of both John XXIII and Paul VI with  enthusiasm to bring together all the faithful that believe in Christ.
