AHST205: Ancient Greek A
This unit is an introduction to the classical Greek language for students who have not previously studied Ancient Greek. This unit also serves as an introductory unit for New Testament Greek. A further half-year study of Ancient Greek can be taken in AHST206 for which AHST205 is a prerequisite. Students wishing to take a Certificate or Diploma in Ancient Languages should contact the Ancient History Office.
AHST206: Ancient Greek B
The unit is designed to follow directly on the work done in AHST205. A selection of graded Greek texts from a number of authors will be studied to build skills in reading Greek. Greek C and D are offered as topics in AHST280 and AHST380.
AHST207: Latin A
This unit is an introduction to the classical Latin language for students with no prior knowledge. A further half-year study of Latin can be taken in AHST208, for which AHST207 is a prerequisite, and Latin C and D are offered as part of AHST280 and AHST380. Students interested in Medieval Latin should take this unit. Students wishing to take a Certificate or Diploma in Ancient Languages should contact the Ancient History Office.
AHST208: Latin B
The unit is designed to follow on the work done in AHST207 Latin A. We shall read a wide variety of Latin, both literary texts (prose and poetry) and documentary and may include Classical Medieval Latin. For Latin C and Latin D see options under AHST280 and AHST380.
AHST241: Classical Hebrew A
An introduction to classical Hebrew for students who have not previously studied Biblical Hebrew. This unit provides students with an introduction to the Hebrew alphabet, and to the grammar and vocabulary of Biblical Hebrew, in preparation for the study of a number of biblical texts. Students work through Page H. Kelley, Biblical Hebrew: An Introductory Grammar. Students wishing to take a Certificate or Diploma in Ancient Languages should contact the Ancient History Office.
AHST242: Classical Hebrew B
This unit extends the student's grasp of Biblical Hebrew by working through the second half of Page H. Kelley, Biblical Hebrew: An Introductory Grammar. The students will also read prose texts in Biblical Hebrew taken from the Old Testament.
AHST260: Egyptian Hieroglyphs A
This unit is an introduction to the hieroglyphic system of writing and the classical ancient Egyptian language written in this script. Students wishing to take a Certificate or Diploma in Ancient Languages should contact the Ancient History Office.
AHST280: Ancient History Special Topic A
The topics in this unit will vary from time to time. Students may choose one of the following topics.(Students who wish to take a second topic should enrol in AHST281.)
AHST281: Ancient History Special Topic B
This unit is for students who wish to take a second option from those in AHST280.
AHST360: Egyptian Hieroglyphs B
This unit builds upon AHST260 Introduction to Egyptian Hieroglyphs providing further study of Middle Egyptian grammar, as well as the study and interpretation of Middle Egyptian texts.
AHST363: Egypt in the Old Kingdom
This unit is a study of the main historical events and the architectural and artistic achievements of the Old Kingdom. The unit will be based on the examination of archaeological sources as well as textual evidence in the original language.
AHST364: Egypt in the 18th Dynasty
A study of central historical issues of the 18th Dynasty based on an interpretation of the archaeological record, art and architecture, and written sources in the original language.
AHST380: Ancient History Special Topic C
The topics in this unit will vary from time to time. Students may choose one of the following topics. (Students who wish to take a second topic should enrol in AHST381.)
AHST381: Ancient History Special Topic D
This unit is for students who wish to take a second option from those offered in AHST380.
LAG-103 ELEMENTARY GREEK (3)
Introduces the students to Greek vocabulary and grammar, with a thorough reading and analysis of
the First Epistle of John. Necessary basic helps and supplementary resources for the beginning New
Testament Greek student.
LAG-201 PRACTICAL ENGLISH I (3)
Review the rules and proper punctuation of proper English usage in a format that suits today’s
needs.
LAG-205 ELEMENTARY HEBREW (3)
An introduction to the Hebrew language by a combination of the inductive and deductive methods.
A study of basic grammar and readings, concluding with the reading of the book of
Esther. (Requires Hebrew Old Testament)
LAG-502 GREEK II (3)
A review of grammar with emphasis on the linguistic approach while reading the gospel of John; then continuing on into more refined grammar usage and understanding. (pre-req.: LAG-103)
LAG-601 GREEK EXEGESIS (3)
Directed research into the history and Biblical usage of the Greek language.
LAG-603 HEBREW I (3)
Directed readings and exhaustive study of the Hebrew Old Testament. (Pre-requisite: LAG-205)
LAG-604 HEBREW EXEGESIS (3)
Directed research into the history and Biblical usage of the Hebrew language.
